Welcome to another addition of the dream roll. Today I will share my experiences from a very crazy week I had recently. Every week is busy in the life of athletes - even the easy weeks are full on - but this one particular week was so crazy due to the fact I broke my record of number of countries I have visited in a week.
Atlanta, USA
This week started out just like any other in the life of an athlete on the road. I found myself in Atlanta preparing for the annual Peachtree 10km.
This race is a very early morning for all, as we are up around 4.30am to prepare for the start at 6.45am. I had a tough day at the office, finishing well down in the field, but there was no time to rest as it was straight to the post-race function for the presentation.
From there I went directly to the airport to catch my first flight of the week - a short one for us Australians - only to Paris via Chicago to make the Paris Diamond League 1500m wheelchair race 48 hours later.
Paris, France
After arriving on Friday into Paris, I managed to get a few hours to relax before the big race on Saturday night. Paris is always a great event, with 50,000 spectators with all the big names in world athletics in attendance.
I tried new tactics for this race, but unfortunately for me they just didn’t quite work out. There’s definitely room for thought there though, and with each race I get stronger and more confident.
Switzerland
After getting to bed around 2am after the race I was up early on Sunday to catch 3 trains to Switzerland country number 3 to meet up with the other Australians for our pre-World Championships training camp.
London, England
After 2 great days training in country number 3 for the week I was back at the airport for a flight to London to speak to Arup - a major Engineering company.
Back to Switzerland
To finish my week, I returned to Switzerland and spent the next few days training back with the Australian team - doing the final relay changes and fine tunning my preparations in the final week leading up to the World Championships, held in Lyon, France.
So, after a busy week through 4 countries, countless hours in airports and traveling between places, things are due to settle down while I stay in one place during the World Championships.
Till next time, keep searching the world for your dream.
